When I first started exploring yoga more seriously, I had no idea how to choose the “right” Yoga Teacher Training Course in India felt overwhelming. Every school claimed to be the best. But as I kept walking the path, meeting teachers, and guiding students like you, I realized something: The right TTC isn’t about the trendiest Instagram feed. It’s about what truly supports your growth.

If you're considering doing your TTC in India or Bali, here are a few things I’ve learned that can help you choose wisely:

ree

1. Look at the Lineage of the School

A good school is more than just a beautiful yoga shala. Ask yourself:

  • Is the school rooted in a classical tradition?

  • Do they teach from an authentic lineage like Hatha, Ashtanga, or Traditional Tantra?

Lineage isn’t about being old-fashioned—it’s about having depth. A strong foundation will support your practice for a lifetime.

2. Check Who the Lead Teachers Are

Some schools hire part-time teachers who come and go. But in a meaningful TTC, the lead teacher lives and breathes what they teach.

  • Read their bios

  • Watch their classes online if possible

  • Ask if you can connect with past students

A great teacher is someone who listens, inspires, and lives the yoga—not just teaches poses.

3. Review the Syllabus (Not Just the Asanas)

Your TTC shouldn’t be just a flexibility camp. Check if the school includes:

  • Philosophy (Patanjali, Bhagavad Gita, etc.)

  • Anatomy

  • Meditation & Pranayama

  • Teaching Methodology

The goal of a TTC is not just to get certified—it’s to understand what yoga really means.

4. Consider the Location

India or Bali both are rich in spiritual energy, and each region offers something unique:

India:

  • Rishikesh – The classical heart of yoga, near the Himalayas

  • Goa – Relaxed beach energy, with a mix of traditional and modern schools

  • Mysore – Known for Ashtanga and deep personal practice

  • Bali:

  • Ubud or Canggu Known for serene view and multi-style practices

Pick what aligns with your current energy and lifestyle.

5. Accommodation, Food & Environment

This might seem secondary, but trust me—when you’re in a 4-week immersive program, these things matter.

  • Is the environment clean and peaceful?

  • Are meals healthy and sattvic?

  • Will you have time to rest and reflect?

A TTC is also about healing, so your space should support that.

6. Certification and Recognition

Most people go for Yoga Alliance certified courses, and that’s fine if you plan to teach internationally. But remember: A certificate doesn’t make you a teacher. A deep experience does.

Choose a school that helps you become a confident, grounded, and heart-centered teacher, not just someone with a paper.

Final Thoughts:

Over the last 8 years of teaching and helping students through Indian Yoga Guide, I’ve seen how life-changing a TTC can be—when you choose the right one. Don't rush it. Talk to someone who’s been there. That’s why I offer a free consultation call before suggesting any school. Sometimes, just listening deeply to your story is all it takes to guide you toward the right place.

Wherever your path takes you in India, I hope you find a training that brings you home to yourself.
